It's been cold here in Houston... by Houston standards. And although, I've had to scrape a thin layer of ice from my car the past few mornings. One would hardly say THAT was news-worthy.
Local news channels would disagree. The 20-degree weather has been a feature story on every local newstation...
And much like reporters like to report floods by standing in knee deep water, we've had reporters standing outside describing how to layer your clothing. I'm wearing a shirt, another flannel shirt, and a warm jacket.
Another woman gave her news report indoors. Inside an ice freezer (that, incidentally, is also kept at 20 degrees). She, thoughtfully, demonstrated how water would actually freeze inside your pipes at these temperatures.
The best report of all, though, was local radio celebrity Chris Baker's spin on all this.
Whenever it rains, Chris Baker always says Be careful out there, you might hit a reporter.
This time, he proclaimed that Everyone needs to go out and find a buffalo to kill, hollow out, and crawl inside, because it's going to get cold tonight!!!
