Not wanting to put any unnecessary miles on our only vehicle (an aging but trusty Honda Civic), we rented a car and headed to Kemah (Salem calls it Kemahs, like Krogers) for the day.
Arriving at the rental car office, they tell us they don't have any
vehicles to rent us (despite our placing a reservation in
advance). We've been there before, although this time it turned out much
more favorable... after a bit of a wait they produced a Jaguar X-Type, and we were on our way.
I've never been too fond of Jaguars but was excited by the
opportunity to take one for a spin. Overall, I just didn't like it;
mainly because the driver's seat quite cramped (there's, surprisingly,
more room in the Civic). Chantell, on the other hand, ended up really
liking it and by her
account drove like someone that owns a Jag.
Anyway, we made it to Kemah Boardwalk
without too much problem and ate lunch outside by the bay. It was an
absolutely gorgeous day. Afterward, we splurged a little and took Salem on some of
the less dizzying rides (Carousel, Ferris Wheel, and Train). We ended up
spending most of the day there and had a wonderful time.
Salem and I have a bedtime ritual where we talk about our favorite
and least favorite parts of the day. Interestingly, her favorite
part of the day was after we got home and we played with her "sticky
magnet bears."
Go figure.
