Bees invaded the house late yesterday afternoon. A swarm of them found
a nice little hole in the pseudo-roof line above the bay windows in the
front.
It's fortunate (for us) they picked that spot since I don't think
they'll be able to get into the attic or house from there (at least I
hope I'm right on that).
Anyway, none of them are physically inside the house at this point although we can hear them (probably hundreds of them) just on the other side of the drywall near that area.
The Terminator is hopefully coming this morning.
Update 11:45 AM: Pest guy came this morning donned in full
bee suit getup and sprayed the hole with "dust." The bees should begin
to "fall" within the next few hours, but are pretty ticked off at the
moment.
Update 23 Apr 2005 9:08 PM: Bees fought back and found a
crack the terminator didn't dust... Hopefully they'll come back
Monday... and hopefully the bees won't have made a permanent home by
that point.
Update 26 Apr 2005 4:26 PM: The bees are proving to be more
persistent than our pest control company who didn't
come until this morning despite our frequent and frantic calls since
their last visit. This time they were a little more liberal in their
coverage use the poison. In reality though, it probably just made the bees more
mad (we can hear their buzzing within the wall much more clearly now).
We're pretty much resigned to the fact that we're probably going to
have to cut a hole in the drywall and clear out the inevitable hive
we'll find there, repair, re-texture, and repaint (and by we, I mean whomever we pay... I ain't about to stick my hand in there).
Update 29 Apr 2005 9:34 AM: Bees continue to thrive in our wall and our pest control folks just weren't taking it seriously enough. So we did the little hand thing and said you're fired! They're great for routine bug problems, but it's evident they know nothing about bees.
We called an emergency bee service company who came out and did a
very thorough job. As of this morning there looks to be no more bees
hovering around. They'll be back today to do some work from inside the
house (injecting some chemical into the wall that dries the honeycomb
up) and again tomorrow. All that and a 1-year warranty and money-back
guarantee, we feel pretty stupid for not calling them in the first
place. Oh well, live and learn.
Hopefully this will be my last post on this subject.
